Introducing Purple Sonic The Hedgehog

This is a bit off topic, but my five year old daughter asked me to teach her to draw Sonic the Hedgehog today, so I walked her through it by drawing him myself as she followed along step by step. The results of that exercise are below:

As you can see, she opted to make her sonic a giant balloon. Not content stopping with that bit of artistic license, she decided she wanted to make a “Purple Sonic”, which came out with a decidedly Picasso-like feel:

You’re forgiven if you initially though he was facing the left (he is not). As a tribute to my daughter’s creation, I’ve created a videogame version of Purple Sonic to be played exclusively in Microsoft Excel, free to play for anyone here. I’ve attached it below for your gaming pleasure.

Enjoy.

Welcome to my new site

So far, I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to write here, but I’m sure I’ll think of something. I guess I can start with the origin of the very dumb name of this site. I was sitting with my 3 year old daughter watching Peppa Pig when I couldn’t stop noticing how much the shape of Peppa’s head matches a certain style of centrifugal pump drawing I have seen on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams. Since I was not following the plot of the episode very closely, I whipped up the following diagram with the help of MS Paint:

Not content to let such a remarkably idiotic and engineering-specific sight gag go to waste, I decided I must find an appropriate domain to host such things. VeryProfessionalEngineer.com fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunately, when I went back to find a more appropriate web address for more serious matters, I found that most were taken. So here we are. We’ll see where this goes.
